The stack is the building’s main vertical drain — the large pipe, usually century-old cast iron, carrying wastewater from every fixture on every floor down to the sewer. When it’s failing, we replace it under permit and rebuild the bathroom from the studs out: new supply lines, subfloor, waterproofing, and tile.
In pre-1930 Chicago buildings, the plumbing behind the wall drives the number more than the finishes in front of it — so we open, assess, and price the real condition as written contingency, not a mid-project surprise. Every estimate is a written line-item scope.
